Every major club have the above now

Tracks the stats of the players, their performance levels etc

I do not believe for one second that Moyes uses these

If he did he would have hard facts that Souceck, Antonio, Cresswell and Fabianski are all several yards off a couple of years back

All of us can see this and don't need the stats but if we had a department solely responsible for proving this then surely he would be compelled to act

I think it's just another facet of Dino Dave not wanting to use things he's suspicious of

A lot of stats are pretty subjective. It's knowing what ones are meaningful. Moneyball and Brentford spring to mind.

I think BFS was the first (or one of the first) to implement sports science.

My local Highland League club have used GPS trackers for ages.

I thought the only thing Nolan did was to tell our forwards to stand on the goalkeeper's toes at corners

When I say forwards I mean anyone who is out there because we don't have any fucking forwards

Cor Blimey. Quite a few clubs do it and I can't for the life of me think that what he is showing can be any different to a quick "right lad on you go. Link up with so and so, close down the centre backs and full backs and stick one in the net!" I assumed it was for those who couldn't speak English!!

Why does Nolan show the subs his holiday photos before they go on? Haven’t seen any other teams do it.

Re: Sports Science / Analysis
Game by game stats are pretty much meaningless because there are too many variables that can be going on, especially with how the opposition are set up.

Even stats that are relevant can easily be used to suggest something that isn't true. For instance, according to all the xG stats we should be in the top half of the table right now. Does anyone seriously believe that we should be there?

Sully prides himself on being a stats man and all Moyes needs to tell him is that we're currently in 5th place for expected goals against, 12th for expected goals for, and 9th for expected points. Moyes says the stats show that tactically we're doing the right things, we just need time for players to adjust, etc., so getting a new manager in wouldn't help.

Every club spends all this money on all this new tech

And yet every season, 3 teams go down and the big clubs fight it out at the top.

Antonio’s recent words prove to me that great managers set trends and poor managers desperately try to model them. That is what football is becoming homogeneous.

When everything is the same try something new, be different.

I make Sir Trevor right.

I don't doubt it, Sir Trevs comments were a fair few years ago. I'm on the fence with all these stats, after all whilst players may be fitter these days I don't think they are necessarily better. After all the only stat that matters is what's the score after 90 minutes!

That’s an extremely dated viewpoint. All these staticians/analysts have all sorts of graphs for progressive passes, passes in opposition half, take ons, sprints p90. It’s a lot more in depth than counting how many passes a players makes.

Re: Sports Science / Analysis
I remember reading an interview with Sir Trevor once. He was discussing Pro Zone with various members of the FA, and they were coming out with all these stats
like "Player A made 45 passes in the game". Trevor said " Ok, but how many were played forward?" He continued "We can all be a David Batty!!"

The other thing that baffles me is why managers today stand there and write things down? Greenwood and Lyall never did, in fact Greenwood said all you need as a coach is a decent pair of eyes. If you are writing thigs down you are missing something!

Think that had them during covid as think that was how the club track their fitness .

also due to this they all got fitter than they had ever been as the didn't want to be seen to be slacking for the return

Do they all wear those GPS tracker things during games?
